Why is Promotional Branding Effective?

embroidme uniforms, sports teams, outdoors, branding, clothing, shirts, polos, jackets, workwear, hi vis, embroidery, digital printing, summer clothes, gym clothes, fun run, image, brand identity,We now live in a crowded marketplace which is saturated with marketing collateral such as emails, leaflets, and online ads. This makes it difficult for marketers to stand out from the crowd and for businesses to have a point of difference.

While having a strong online presence in this technology-driven society is important there are other branding initiatives that are effective and have good return on investment (ROI). Promotional branding through promotional products is an effective way to build business, establish customer relationships, build brand loyalty, and ultimately drives business.

Why does promotional branding work?

In an advertising saturated marketplace it’s difficult for businesses to cut through the clutter, however in a recent survey a majority of participants questioned could recall more about their promotional product(s) above any mass media advertising. In fact these studies found over 75% of survey participants could recall the specific product, advertiser, and message; this is a high recall rate!

This top-of-mind recall is what gives promotional products the edge on other advertising means. A brief exposure to a TV or radio commercial won’t be as effective as a promotional product being used by a prospect in their home or office. According to the survey 91% of participants had at least one promotional product in their kitchen and 74% had at least one promotional product in their work area – and on average the promotional products are kept for 7 – 8 months.

For TV and radio to be effective the ads need to be ongoing – which means costs increase. Compare this to strategically distributed promotional products and it’s clear that this targeted approach is a cost effective advertising method that produces high recall rate among consumers.

This isn’t a new concept, in fact promotional products have been around for decades, however now there’s the opportunity to brand a greater range of products – suitable for any industry and target market.

Promotional products build business so why not include them in this year’s marketing mix.

What’s Trending in the Promotional Products Industry for 2015?

With the new year underway, promotional marketing experts have spent January scouring the promotional products industry for the most innovative ways to promote your brand.

May 12

Items that could be used every day and make your life easier are a big trend as marketers want to ensure their products serve to benefit their prospective customers and make a daily impression.

Ever-popular items like pens, bags and cups appear with new innovations every year. For instance, bags with reflectors built in for safety are new this year, as are pens that can also be used as a stylus with touch devices. Even ceramic mugs with quirky additions like a chalkboard finish for writing notes on them are available. Every year, suppliers come up with creative solutions to liven up promo products.

As usual, we saw a huge surge in the number of tech gadgets as well. Chargers, Bluetooth speakers and triple USB ports were in high demand. Multitasking items like wireless headphones are indicative of our modern on-the-go lifestyles. Now, with the number of smartphones booming, accessories and cases are also increasing in popularity every year. Items like phone wallets with stands, tastefully branded, are popping up everywhere.

Wellness is a growing trend in promotional products. Water bottles are a big hit, especially those you can hold while you run, and some are even collapsible. Related to this trend are fruit infuser drops to flavour the recommended eight cups of water a day.

Sunglasses are still as popular as always, featured in a variety of fun colours and stylish options.
Customising apparel is a mainstay of promotional marketing. Recognizing the longevity of promotional apparel items, marketers are opting into sublimation printing for brilliantly coloured, long-lasting imagery that won’t fade as the item goes through multiple wearings and washings.

Video marketing is taking the promotional products industry by storm! Imagine opening a designer box of chocolates to find a promotional video inside – what a way to make an impression! Logoed packaging in general, “marketing in a box,” is becoming a big trend.

We’re excited to see how these new trends play out through the year.

Hot Branding Tips for Winter – Jackets

Helping you keep warm

With news headlines reading “No respite from gloomy weather” or “First snow, now black ice hits south” we know that winter is well on its way, or in some places around the country it has very much already arrived! In Turangi (just south of Taupo) the other day they woke up to a chilli -5C, which was the coldest temperature in the country. Even Auckland and Christchurch only had one degree difference!

EmbroidMe: Hot branding tips for winter - Jackets

You may get condensation on the windows at home and have the windscreen frozen-over on your car, or if not, we’ve all experienced the rush of bitterly cold air when you go and open a door to outside! Driving to work can also start out cold as you wait [patiently?] for the heating to work. On days like this motivation to leave the house can quickly fade.

When it comes to winter fashion many people would tell you that the trick to keeping warm is by wearing layers, but that can cause an issue for your companies branding. Business uniforms provide excellent benefits for your business (read our previous post), but in winter the company logos and brands frequently get hidden behind non-branded jackets. Branded jackets give credibility to staff in the same way a branded shirt does, and including a branded jacket in your uniform dress-code means staff and team members will take the brand with them wherever they go.

About.com says that branding is your identity in the marketplace and that it’s important to realise that how you package your brand is an integral part of your business. Just by looking out into the world today, it’s easy to see why brands are more important than at any time in the past 100 years.

A good brand confirms credibility, and reassures customers that the plumber, builder, or any type of tradesman or delivery person that turns up to their house is actually from the company they called. But it’s not limited to that. Sports teams and coaches are easily seen, professionals are identifiable in meetings, event staff and road-workers are visible, salesmen gain credibility, and ultimately everyone is kept warm. Don’t only provide your staff or team with a uniform to promote your brand, invest in jackets to ensure that your brand isn’t hidden.

“Therefore it makes sense to understand that branding is not about getting your target market to choose you over the competition, but it is about getting your prospects to see you as the only one that provides a solution to their problem.”

Business Anniversary Marketing Ideas

business marketing ideasYour company’s anniversary is an ideal time to promote your success and reward your loyal customers.

Make your company anniversary memorable and profitable.

A company anniversary also provides an opportunity to lay the foundation for future growth by attracting new customers. Well planned and implemented marketing ideas can help make your company anniversary be memorable and profitable.

Charity Event
One way to establish a stronger presence in your community is to tie your business’s anniversary to a charity event. For instance, you can publicize your place of business as a drop-off point for a canned food or winter coat collection drive as a way to attract and impress customers while providing a valuable service for your fellow citizens. Another option is to advertise the fact that you will donate a portion of your sales to a charity during your anniversary week.

Promote your business for each milestone year
Stage a special promotion that commemorates the year you started your business. If you are marking your 10th anniversary, for instance, roll back prices on specific items to match what they were back when you first started your business. Play music that was popular at the time. Ask your employees to dress in clothing of the era and offer a discount to customers who do the same.

Promotional productsReward your customers for their loyalty
Offer a promotion in which you give customers a pricing discount based on the number of years you’ve been in business. For instance, if you’ve been operating for 12 years, offer 12 percent off all your products on your anniversary. This method works well for commemorating “off-year” anniversaries that may not be as notable as such milestones as 10 or 25 years.

High-Tech Ideas
Use modern technology to help promote your anniversary and generate more sales. If your business has developed an email customer list, use email blasts to remind them of your anniversary and inform them of special promotions. Redesign your website’s home page to include an anniversary seal emblem as well as a history of and all its accomplishments. Send anniversary messages via social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter to drive traffic to your site. Source: Chris Joseph
